When to go

November-April is the dry season, with calmer seas for island trips. From May to October rain and waves can cancel boats and tours, so keep your plans flexible.

Airport to the city

Airport shuttle bus to Ao Nang

Shuttle buses run from Krabi International Airport (KBV) to Ao Nang beach and Krabi Town. Check times at the airport information desk.

Time about 40 min-1 hour to Ao NangCost check the fare at the airport counter

Taxi or ride-hailing

The airport taxi counter or a ride-hailing app takes you door to door, handy with luggage or late at night.

Flights from further afield

Many international routes connect via Bangkok or other hubs. Flying into Phuket and driving over is another option, so compare connections and total travel time.

Getting around

Longtail boats

Buy tickets at the Ao Nang beach counter for Railay and nearby islands. Boats leave when full and don't run in rough seas.

Songthaews (shared trucks)

Cheap shared rides between Ao Nang, Krabi Town and Noppharat Thara beach. Confirm the destination and fare before boarding.

Ride-hailing apps

Fares are set in advance; useful in the evening or for longer trips.

Scooter rental

Popular but accidents are common. Check you hold a licence valid in Thailand and what your travel insurance covers, and always wear a helmet.

Where to stay

Ao Nang

Good for: First visit, island trips

Restaurants and tour counters line the beach and boats leave nearby — the easiest base.

Reachable only by boat, with no road access. Quiet, but you'll carry luggage on and off the boat.

Krabi Town

Good for: Budget stays, night market

A small riverside town about 30 minutes by car from the beaches, cheaper, with a weekend night market.

Klong Muang & Tub Kaek

Good for: Quiet resorts, families

Peaceful beaches north of Ao Nang, suited to resort stays.
