When to go

January to August is mostly dry and good for the beach, with February to August the safest bet. The rainy season runs roughly September to December, with heavy rain most likely in October and November and occasional storms that can cancel island trips and boats. Prices rise during major holidays and the summer peak.

Airport to the city

Grab car

Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR) is a fair way south of the city. The fare is fixed in the app, so no haggling.

Time about 40-50 min to the cityCost shown in the app before you book (check official)

Airport taxi

Take a reputable company's taxi from the official rank and confirm the meter or fixed fare first.

Time about 40-50 min to the cityCost metered or fixed fare; confirm before you ride (check official)

Airport bus

A cheap bus links the airport with the city beachfront. Routes and timetables can change, so check at the airport.

Time about 50-70 minCost about 50,000-70,000 VND

Getting around

Grab cars and motorbikes

The default way to get around. GrabBike is cheapest for short beachfront hops; book a car with family or luggage.

Electric taxis

Green electric taxis are common; book in an app or hail on the street, and check how the fare works before you ride.

Metered taxis

Choose well-known companies and make sure the meter is on.

Resort shuttles

Many resorts near the airport or on the islands run shuttles into town. Check times and fees when you book.

Walking

The city beach promenade and the restaurant streets behind it are easy on foot. Cross streets slowly at a steady pace.

Where to stay

City beachfront (Tran Phu)

Good for: First visit, restaurants, evening walks

Hotels, restaurants and cafes line the long beach. Walkable, with the most choice.

North beach (around Hon Chong)

Good for: Quieter beach, value

More relaxed and local than the center, about 10-15 minutes by car from town.

Cam Ranh (resorts near the airport)

Good for: Resort stays, families

A quiet beach lined with large resorts. Close to the airport but 30+ minutes by car to the city.

Island resorts (Hon Tre and others)

Good for: Resort and theme park in one place

Stay and play on the island. Check the resort's official information for how to get there and when.
