Da Lat Travel Guide

A city in Vietnam's Central Highlands with cool weather all year, lakes, pine forests, flower gardens and French-era buildings. It feels completely different from the hot beach cities, so many travelers pair it with Nha Trang.

When to go

The December-March dry season is clear and cool, the best time to visit. The May-October wet season brings frequent afternoon rain. Mornings and evenings are chilly year-round at this altitude, so bring a jacket.

Airport to the city

Lien Khuong Airport (DLI) to the city

Da Lat's airport is about 30 km south of town. Take the airport shuttle bus, a taxi or a ride-hailing car. Routes change by season, so check airline schedules.

Time about 40-50 min to the centerCost check shuttle and taxi fares at the airport or in the app (check official)

Via Nha Trang Cam Ranh Airport (CXR) and road

Fly into Nha Trang and come over the mountains by bus or private car. The road is winding, so bring motion-sickness tablets.

Time about 3-4 hoursCost bus and private-car fares vary by operator (check official)

Via Ho Chi Minh City

Connect to a domestic flight or take a long-distance bus from Ho Chi Minh City. The bus takes much longer.

Getting around

Taxis and ride-hailing apps

The easiest way around town and to nearby sights. App fares are fixed in advance, so there's no haggling.

Walking

Xuan Huong Lake, Da Lat Market and the night market are walkable. It's hilly, so wear comfortable shoes.

Tours and car hire

Waterfalls, temples and Langbiang Mountain are spread out; a day tour or car with driver is easiest.

Motorbike rental

Popular, but hills and wet roads make it risky. Check license and insurance requirements.

Where to stay

Center (Da Lat Market and Xuan Huong Lake)

Good for: First visit, night market, walking

Close to the night market, restaurants and cafes; busy and a little noisy in the evening.

East of the lake

Good for: Quiet stays, walks

Quiet lakeside hotels near the old railway station, a short walk or ride to the center.

Hillside resorts outside town

Good for: Forest retreats, views

Resorts and villas with pine forest and valley views; you'll need a car to reach town.
