Himeji Travel Guide

Home of Himeji Castle, nicknamed Shirasagi-jo (White Egret Castle) because it looks like an egret taking off from the water. The National Treasure castle became Japan's first World Cultural Heritage site in December 1993, together with Horyu-ji in Nara. It is about 1 hour from Osaka by JR special rapid, an easy extra day on a Kansai trip.
