When to go

The November-April dry season is sunny with calm seas. From May to October, afternoon showers are frequent and the sea can get rough.

Airport to the city

Taxi (fixed-fare coupon) to the beaches

At Langkawi International Airport (LGK), buy a fixed-fare taxi coupon by destination at the arrivals counter. Ride-hailing apps also work.

Time about 10-15 min to Pantai CenangCost fixed rate card (check official)

Rental car

With little public transport on the island, many travelers rent a car at the airport. Malaysia drives on the left.

Getting around

Rental car or scooter

The easiest way to explore freely. Check your licence and travel insurance coverage first, and always wear a helmet on a scooter.

Ride-hailing & taxis

Ride-hailing apps with set fares are widely used; confirm taxi fares before riding.

Boats (island tours & ferries)

Book island hopping at beach counters. Ferries from Kuah jetty go to the mainland (Kuala Perlis, Kuala Kedah) and Penang; check official timetables.

Walking

The Pantai Cenang beach strip of restaurants and shops is walkable, but the island is large and you'll need a car to go further.
