Krabi suits 4 to 5 days. Base yourself in Ao Nang and go day by day: the Four Islands tour, Railay and Tiger Cave Temple, plus airport transfers and budget.

The big picture: base yourself in Ao Nang
The Krabi guide recommends 4 to 5 days. This post follows the guide's 4-day plan day by day: arrival and the transfer to Ao Nang, the Four Islands tour, Railay, and a final day at Tiger Cave Temple and the Emerald Pool. Ideas for an extra day come further down.
Ao Nang is the easiest base. Restaurants and tour counters line the beach and boats leave nearby, which keeps the boat days (Day 2 and Day 3) simple. Railay is great for cliff beaches and rock climbing, but it has no road access, so you arrive by boat and carry your luggage on and off.
- Ao Nang: first visit, island trips. Boats leave nearby; the easiest base
- Railay: cliff beaches, rock climbing. Quiet and reachable only by boat
- Krabi Town: budget stays, night market. A small riverside town about 30 minutes by car from the beaches
- Klong Muang & Tub Kaek: peaceful beaches north of Ao Nang, suited to resort stays and families
Day 1: Airport to Ao Nang, a sunset walk and seafood
Shuttle buses run from Krabi International Airport (KBV) to Ao Nang beach and Krabi Town. The ride to Ao Nang takes about 40 min-1 hour; check times and fares at the airport information desk and counter. With lots of luggage or a late arrival, the airport taxi counter or a ride-hailing app takes you door to door in about 30-40 min to Ao Nang, for about THB 500-800.
After check-in, walk Ao Nang beach at sunset and finish with seafood. For grilled seafood you pick prawns, fish or squid priced by weight, so check how prices are counted before choosing. Tom yum goong, the hot and sour prawn soup, costs about THB 150-300.

Day 2: Four Islands tour, then an evening in Ao Nang
Day two is the Four Islands tour: a half- or full-day trip by longtail or speedboat around Poda, Chicken and Tup islands. At low tide a sandbar can link the islands. Spend the evening strolling around Ao Nang.
Island and boat trips can be cancelled on the day due to weather, and the guide advises against booking one on your last day. Longtail boats board from the beach, so your feet will get wet; water sandals and a dry bag help.
- Don't stand on or touch coral
- Some beaches have rules on sunscreen used in the sea
Day 3: Longtail boat to Railay and Phra Nang Cave Beach
Buy a longtail boat ticket to Railay at the Ao Nang beach counter. Boats leave when full and don't run in rough seas. Railay has no road access, so the boat is the only way in.
Railay and Phra Nang Cave Beach are framed by limestone cliffs. Walking routes change with the tide, so follow local advice as you explore the beaches and viewpoint walks. Railay is also a good spot for rock climbing.
Head back to Ao Nang by longtail in the late afternoon. Boats only leave when full, so allow plenty of time for the return.

Day 4: Tiger Cave Temple, Emerald Pool and Hot Spring Waterfall, weekend market
The last day stays off the boats. Start early at Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea), where over 1,200 steps lead to summit views. Go early in the morning and cover shoulders and knees, as it is a temple.
Next come the Emerald Pool, a clear forest pool, and the Hot Spring Waterfall with its warm water. The two are often combined in one day tour.
If it is Friday to Sunday, spend the evening at the walking-street market around Maharaj Road in Krabi Town. A nightly market also sets up near Chao Fah Pier by the river, good for street food and souvenirs. If you fly out that day, allow about 30-40 min by taxi or ride-hailing app, or about 40 min-1 hour by shuttle bus, between Ao Nang and the airport.
With 5 days: Hong Island, Phi Phi or mangrove kayaking
At 5 days, the upper end of the guide's range, you can add one more day. Since island and boat trips can be cancelled on the day, put the extra boat trip in the middle of your stay rather than on the last day.
National park fees (Phi Phi, Hong Island, etc.) may be separate from tour prices, so check what's included when booking.

- Hong Island: an island around a lagoon, good for kayaking and snorkeling. It's in a national park with a separate entry fee
- Phi Phi day trip: tours visit famous bays such as Maya Bay. National park fees and opening status change, so check official information
- Mangrove kayaking: paddle through mangroves and limestone cliffs at places like Ao Thalane; departure times follow the tides
Before you go: getting around, budget and when to visit
Besides longtail boats, songthaews (shared trucks) run cheaply between Ao Nang, Krabi Town and Noppharat Thara beach; confirm the destination and fare before boarding. Ride-hailing apps set the fare in advance and are useful in the evening or for longer trips. Scooter rental is popular but accidents are common: check you hold a licence valid in Thailand and what your travel insurance covers, and always wear a helmet.
Per person per day, budget about THB 1,200-1,800 for a guesthouse, street food and songthaews; about THB 3,000-5,000 for a beach hotel, island tours and restaurants; and about THB 10,000+ for a resort and private boat. Pad thai or fried rice costs about THB 60-150, and mango sticky rice or a fruit shake about THB 50-120.
According to the Krabi guide, November-April is the dry season, with calmer seas for island trips, while from May to October rain and waves can cancel boats and tours. If you travel then, keep your plans flexible.
- Don't feed the monkeys, and don't carry bags or food loosely in your hands around them
- Thai entry rules (visa exemption periods, digital arrival card, etc.) can change. Check official Thai government information before you travel
