What to know first

You can look up flights to all three from Incheon and Busan (Gimhae) on the route pages below. Straight-line distances from Incheon are about 2,980 km to Da Nang, 3,310 km to Nha Trang (Cam Ranh) and 3,780 km to Phu Quoc. Check schedules and flight times with the airlines (check official) and recent fares on the route pages.

The biggest difference is the season. Da Nang and Nha Trang get most of their rain in autumn to early winter (especially October-November), while Phu Quoc's rainy season is summer to autumn (May-October). Matching the city to your travel month saves a lot of weather worries.

Da Nang — a close airport and easy day trips

The airport is right next to the city, about 10-20 minutes from hotels near My Khe Beach. The lantern-lit old town of Hoi An, the Ba Na Hills and the Marble Mountains all make easy day trips.

Best season: the dry season from February to May is most comfortable, and June-August is hot but fairly dry. September-December is the rainy season, with heavy rain and typhoons especially likely in October and November.

Best for: first-timers in Vietnam, families with children, and travelers who want both beach and sightseeing.

Nha Trang — island trips and mud spas

A long city beach, clear water, island-hopping tours and mud spas are the highlights, plus historic sites such as the Po Nagar Cham Towers.

Cam Ranh airport is a fair way south of the city, about 40-50 minutes away. Staying on the city beachfront or at the resorts near the airport makes for very different trips.

Best season: January-August is mostly dry, with February-August the safest bet. The rainy season runs roughly September-December, and heavy rain in October-November can cancel island trips and boats.

Best for: travelers who want water activities plus resort time, and families traveling in the summer holidays.

Phu Quoc — sunsets and southern island-hopping

Vietnam's largest island, known for white-sand beaches, sunsets, island-hopping and snorkeling in the south, and a cable car. The island is long and large, so staying in the north, center or south shapes the whole trip.

Best season: November-April is the dry season with calm, clear water. May-October is the rainy season, and around July-September high waves on the west coast can make swimming dangerous or cancel boats.

Best for: travelers chasing warm seas in winter and anyone who wants to unwind at a resort.
