Cebu over Lunar New Year 2027: what to know first
Seollal (Lunar New Year's Day) falls on Sunday 7 February 2027 (Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute lunar calendar); check the government's official announcement for the holiday period.
In Cebu, January to May, when rain is lower, is the best time, especially January to April when skies are clear and seas calm, so a February trip falls inside that window. Cebu suits 5 to 6 days, though, so a short holiday alone can feel tight.
Check prices early too. Resort prices rise sharply in peak holiday seasons. Bookings for flights and rooms can fill up over the holiday, so check early.
February weather in Cebu and what to wear
Climate normals for 1991–2020 at Mactan-Cebu International Airport station (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Climatological Normals) give February a daytime high of about 30°C, a low of about 24°C and about 89 mm of rain. For context, January is about 30°C / 24°C with about 135 mm, and March about 31°C / 25°C with about 61 mm.
Days and nights are both summer-warm, so pack summer clothes. The Basilica del Santo Niño is a place of worship, so dress modestly and keep quiet on your old-town day. In the sea, don't stand on or touch coral, and use reef-friendlier sunscreen where you can.
Even in a good month, island-hopping boats and Bohol ferries can be cancelled in bad weather. Check official information for the dates of February local events and festivals.
A 4-day plan covering the highlights
In 4 days you can cover resort time on Mactan, island hopping, Cebu City and an early day trip. The day-by-day route with transport details is in our Cebu 5-day itinerary post; here is the outline for a holiday break.

- Day 1: Arrive and check in on Mactan, then a slow day by the resort pool and beach
- Day 2: Morning island hopping and snorkeling, an afternoon rest, then seafood or lechon for dinner
- Day 3: Cebu City: Santo Niño, Magellan's Cross and Fort San Pedro, mall shopping, then night views from Tops Lookout
- Day 4: Early day trip to Bohol, or to Moalboal and Kawasan Falls, then to the airport in time for your flight home
- Short on days: drop the day trip and keep Mactan, island hopping and Cebu City
With an extra day: Bohol, Moalboal, Oslob
Bohol is the neighboring island known for the Chocolate Hills and tiny tarsiers. It is about 2 hours by ferry from Cebu City, so start early. For combining the two islands, see our Cebu and Bohol post.
Moalboal is a seaside town in southwest Cebu where you can snorkel right off the beach among huge schools of sardines. It is around 3 hours by car from the city, so stay a night or two if your break is longer. For canyoneering at Kawasan Falls, choose operators with professional guides and proper safety gear.
Oslob is famous for close encounters with whale sharks at dawn, but the sharks are attracted with feeding, which raises animal-welfare concerns. Decide carefully whether to take part. Many activities there start at dawn, so some travelers stay nearby.
From the airport, and getting around
If you're staying on Mactan, a resort or hotel pickup is the easiest option, about 15-30 min to Mactan resorts. It may be included or cost extra depending on the hotel, and if you arrive late at night, booking ahead is reassuring. A ride-hailing app takes about 15-30 min to Mactan and 40-90 min to Cebu City depending on traffic; with an airport taxi, make sure the meter is on.
Between Cebu City and Mactan, a ride-hailing app is the easiest and safest way, but bridge traffic gets heavy at rush hour. In white metered taxis, ask for the meter, and treat jeepneys as a short experience only. Some Mactan resorts run shuttles to malls or the city, and tour vans are easiest for Oslob and Moalboal.
For where to stay: Mactan Island resorts for families, honeymoons and relaxing, close to the airport and island-hopping departure points; Cebu IT Park for city sights and dining, where walking around at night is relatively comfortable; and the area around the big city malls for shopping and convenience, also a good rainy-day option.
Budget and a pre-trip checklist
Budget per person per day: about 1,800 PHP on a shoestring (guesthouse, local eateries, jeepneys), about 5,000-7,000 PHP mid-range (hotel, restaurants, ride-hailing, island hopping), and about 15,000 PHP+ for a Mactan resort and private tours. Resort prices rise sharply in peak holiday seasons, so recheck room rates when you book.
- Holiday period: check the government's official announcement
- Entry requirements and electronic arrival registration: rules can change, so check official Philippine government sources before you travel
- Flights and rooms: bookings can fill up over the holiday, so check early
- Arriving late at night: book a resort or hotel pickup ahead
- Small notes: jeepneys, taxis and stalls need cash and often lack change
- Water: don't drink tap water; buy bottled water
- Belongings: in crowded spots such as the old town, markets and jeepneys, keep your phone and wallet in front of you
- At sea: choose reputable operators with life jackets and safety gear, and postpone in bad weather
