Four ways out of Yonago Airport

There are 4 ways to leave Yonago Kitaro Airport (YGJ): the airport bus to Yonago Station, the JR Sakai Line from Yonago Airport Station (米子空港駅), the airport bus to Matsue Station in Shimane Prefecture, and a taxi booked in advance.

Which one suits you depends on where you sleep the first night. For the Yonago Station area, take the bus or the JR Sakai Line; for Sakaiminato, the JR Sakai Line or the Minatoru shared bus; for Matsue, the bus to Matsue Station. Below are times and fares for each option, what to know about each area, and what to sort out on arrival day.

Airport bus to Yonago Station

The airport bus runs from Yonago Kitaro Airport to Yonago Station. It takes about 25 min to Yonago Station and costs JPY 640. The JR Sakai Line and local buses to Daisen and Kaike Onsen all leave from Yonago Station, so it is the simplest base for a first day with luggage.

One thing to know: if a flight is suspended or cancelled, the airport bus may not run either. Check the official timetable for bus times.

If you plan to ride buses several times in Tottori Prefecture, look at the Tottori-han Norihodai Tegata (鳥取藩乗放題手形). It costs JPY 1,800 for 3 days of unlimited rides on local buses in Tottori Prefecture, the Yonago Station–airport bus and the Dandan Bus, among others, and is sold at the Yonago Airport information desk, among other places. JR trains are not included.

JR Sakai Line and the Minatoru shared bus

From Yonago Airport Station (米子空港駅) on the JR Sakai Line, trains go to Yonago Station or Sakaiminato Station. Fares are JPY 240 to Yonago Station and JPY 190 to Sakaiminato Station. Check JR West timetables for train times.

Towards Sakaiminato there is also the on-demand shared bus "Minatoru" (JPY 100). As it is on demand, check official information for how to book and ride.

Taxis are scarce at night in Sakaiminato. If you are staying there or plan to travel late, book a taxi in advance.

Airport bus to Matsue Station, and taxis

If your first night is in Matsue in Shimane Prefecture, an airport bus runs from the airport to Matsue Station. It takes about 45 min and costs JPY 1,200. This bus, too, may not run if a flight is suspended or cancelled.

Booking a taxi from the airport in advance is recommended. At busy times or early in the morning, bookings may not be possible. Expect about 30 min and about JPY 5,500 to Yonago Station, about 15 min and about JPY 2,400 to Sakaiminato Station, and about 45 min and about JPY 8,500 to Matsue Station.

Yonago Station, Kaike Onsen or Sakaiminato: where to stay

Kaike Onsen is a seaside hot spring town about 5 km from Yonago Station, about 20 min by local bus or 15 min by taxi from the station, with Mt. Daisen rising beyond its white-sand, pine-lined beach.

Sakaiminato is known for its yokai street and seafood. It is about 45 min from Yonago Station on the JR Sakai Line; from the airport, take the JR Sakai Line from Yonago Airport Station or use Minatoru. Taxis are scarce at night, so book late trips in advance.
