Macau Airport (MFM) to the City

Macau International Airport (MFM) to the city by public bus, LRT Taipa Line or taxi: where to board, fares, no-change rule and an arrival-day checklist.
Published
One airport, MFM, and three ways into the city
This post takes a closer look at getting from Macau International Airport (MFM) into the city. There are three options: public buses from outside the airport, the LRT Taipa Line's Airport Station linked to the passenger terminal's North Exit, and taxis from the airport taxi stand.
Macao's official currency is the pataca (MOP). Buses cost MOP6 per ride and give no change, so getting coins or a Macau Pass card ready before you leave the airport is the first step.
Below we go through where to board and what each option costs, then how to choose by area, an at-a-glance comparison and an arrival-day checklist. Routes and timetables can change, so check the official information before you go.
Public buses: MOP6 per ride, no change given
Public buses run from Macau International Airport (MFM). The airport lists routes 26, 36, 51A, 51B, AP1, MT1, MT4 and N2. Buses run about 06:00–23:50, varying by route.
Route 51B runs only at set times and not on Sundays or public holidays. Check where each route goes and when on the airport's official page, and find the stop nearest your accommodation's address in advance.
The fare is MOP6 per ride with no change given. Pay with exact coins or use a Macau Pass card. Buses also run frequently around the Macao Peninsula, Taipa and Coloane, so the Macau Pass stays useful after you arrive.
- Routes listed by the airport: 26, 36, 51A, 51B, AP1, MT1, MT4, N2
- Hours: about 06:00–23:50 (varies by route)
- 51B: set times only, no service on Sundays or public holidays
- Fare: MOP6 per ride, no change — have coins or a Macau Pass ready
LRT Taipa Line: Airport Station links to the North Exit
The LRT Taipa Line's Airport Station links to the passenger terminal's North Exit. After arrival, head for the North Exit.
Macao's LRT runs the Taipa, Seac Pai Van and Hengqin lines, and the East Line is under construction. Check routes, fares and timetables on the official LRT site (mlm.com.mo), and look up the station nearest your accommodation's address in advance.
Taxis: MOP21 flag fare, MOP8 airport surcharge
Taxis leave from the airport taxi stand. Black taxis with cream roofs are the regular taxis. MGTO says it is about 15 minutes by car to the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal and about 20 minutes to central Macao Peninsula.
The fare is MOP21 for the first 1,600 m, then MOP2 per 220 m. Taking a taxi from the airport adds MOP8, and each item in the boot costs MOP3. Around town, MOP3–8 surcharges can apply depending on location and luggage.
- Flag fare: MOP21 (first 1,600 m)
- Distance: MOP2 per 220 m
- From the airport: MOP8 surcharge
- Boot luggage: MOP3 per item
Choosing by area
Accommodation areas fall into three: the Macao Peninsula, Taipa and Coloane. Check which airport bus routes serve your area on the airport's official page, and whether the LRT reaches it on the official LRT site.
If you come in via Hong Kong by ferry or bus, you will use the Outer Harbour or Taipa ferry terminals or the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge shuttle bus instead of the airport. Check schedules and fares on the official sites (ferry schedules: marine.gov.mo; bridge shuttle: hzmbus.com).
- Macao Peninsula (around the Historic Centre): Senado Square, the Ruins of St. Paul's and Mount Fortress are all here, the shortest trips for a heritage-focused stay. MGTO says a taxi from the airport to the centre takes about 20 minutes
- Taipa: close to the airport and Taipa Ferry Terminal, with Rua do Cunha and the Taipa Houses in Taipa Village
- Coloane: a quiet area with old buildings such as Coloane Library and Coloane Pier. Check bus times in advance
