Airport to the Hotel Zone or downtown: start with the distance
The tourism board says Cancún International Airport (CUN) is about 16 km from the Hotel Zone and about 20 km from downtown (Centro). There are three main ways to leave the airport: the ADO shuttle bus to the city, a taxi from the terminal, and the Tren Maya (Maya Train) at Cancún Airport station for regional trips.
According to the airport operator ASUR, each option is available at different terminals. Note your arrival terminal number in advance, and check fares and timetables with official sources before you go.
- About 16 km to the Hotel Zone, about 20 km to downtown
- ADO shuttle bus: Terminals 2, 3 and 4
- Taxi: Terminals 2 and 3
- Tren Maya: Cancún Airport station (regional trips)
ADO shuttle bus: Terminals 2, 3 and 4 to the city
According to ASUR, the ADO shuttle runs to the city from Terminals 2, 3 and 4. Check routes, timetables and fares with ADO's official information before you go.
The tourism board lists the Cancún bus terminal downtown as a main arrival point. If you are staying in the Hotel Zone, check with ADO and your hotel in advance where the bus stops and how to get from there to your hotel.
- Where to board: Terminals 2, 3 and 4
- Destination: the city (check routes with ADO)
- Timetable and fares: check the official information before you go
Taxi: Terminals 2 and 3, arranged with your hotel
According to ASUR, taxi service is available at Terminals 2 and 3. The Hotel Zone is about 16 km away, and the ride time depends on traffic. Check fares with official sources before you go.
Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises using a taxi called through your hotel rather than hailing one on the street, keeping windows closed and bags on the floor. It also notes that ride-hailing apps are hard to use in some resort areas such as Cancún, so ask your hotel before you travel how best to get there from the airport.
- Where to board: Terminals 2 and 3
- About 16 km to the Hotel Zone (time depends on traffic)
- Fares: check the official information before you go
- In the car: windows closed, bags on the floor
Tren Maya at Cancún Airport station: for regional trips
Maya Train (Tren Maya) services toward Playa del Carmen, Tulum Airport, Mérida and Chetumal leave from Cancún Airport station (Estación Cancún Aeropuerto). Playa del Carmen is about 49 minutes away. The train suits regional trips better than getting into the city.
Since 15 August 2026 the 'Tren Maya Conecta' intermodal service has linked stations with the airport, the hotel zones and other points. Since the same date the Cancún–Playa del Carmen route has run four trips a day (from Cancún 06:45 and 10:30).
Tickets are sold on the official site, the app and at ticket offices. Check fares on the official site (trenmaya.gob.mx), and check the timetable again before you go, as it can change.

Choosing by where you stay
From the airport, the Hotel Zone is about 16 km away and downtown about 20 km. What to check in advance depends on the area of your hotel.
- Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera): about 22 km of beaches. Addresses are given as kilometre points on Bulevar Kukulcán (El Rey at km 18, the Maya Museum at km 16), so knowing your hotel's km point makes city bus stops easy to find
- Downtown (Centro): the city proper, about 20 km from the airport. The tourism board lists the Cancún bus terminal as a main arrival point
- Isla Mujeres: an island about 20 minutes from Cancún by ferry. Ferries leave from Puerto Juárez north of downtown and from Playa Tortugas (Bulevar Kukulcán km 6.5) and Playa Caracol (km 9.5) in the Hotel Zone. The operator asks you to arrive 30 minutes before departure, and the pier fee is not included in the fare. Ask your hotel in advance how to get from the airport to the pier
- Playa del Carmen and other nearby towns: check the Tren Maya timetable and fares from Cancún Airport station on the official site
