Four ways from Marco Polo Airport (VCE) into the city
Venice's airport is Marco Polo Airport (VCE). According to the airport, you can get into the city in four ways: ACTV Aerobus line 5, the ATVO express bus, the Alilaguna water bus and taxis. Private water taxis (motorboats) are also available.
The buses go to Piazzale Roma (the bus terminal) or Venezia Mestre station, while Alilaguna goes to Venice itself and the islands of Murano, Burano, Lido and Certosa. Choose by where you want to get off, how you will reach your hotel and whether you will change onto a waterbus. For journey times on all four, check official information.
ACTV Aerobus line 5: to Piazzale Roma
According to the airport, ACTV urban bus 5 links the airport with Piazzale Roma, and line 15 goes to Venezia Mestre station. The stop is on the second lane outside arrivals; buy tickets from machines in baggage claim (near carousels 3 and 5) or at the public transport ticket office in the arrivals hall.
On line 5 a 75-minute ticket is EUR 10 and a return is EUR 18. The 'Aerobus + 90-minute Rete Unica' ticket (EUR 18) lets you get off at Piazzale Roma and change straight onto a waterbus. Waterbus line 1 runs the length of the Grand Canal, and lines 1 and 2 stop at Accademia.
From Piazzale Roma you can walk to Santa Lucia station over the Ponte della Costituzione. If you buy a 1-, 2-, 3- or 7-day ticket, you can add airport buses for EUR 7 one way or EUR 13 return, bought together with the pass. The 75-minute Rete Unica waterbus ticket (EUR 9.50) does not cover buses to or from the airport.
- Line 5: 75-minute ticket EUR 10, return EUR 18
- Aerobus + 90-minute waterbus ticket EUR 18
- With a day pass: airport buses EUR 7 one way or EUR 13 return extra
- Line 15: towards Venezia Mestre station
ATVO express bus: Piazzale Roma and Mestre station
According to the airport, ATVO express buses run without intermediate stops to Venice (Piazzale Roma) and Venezia Mestre station. Tickets are sold at the airport machines and ticket office, and also on board. Check official information for fares and journey times.
When you board a waterbus at Piazzale Roma, you need to validate a waterbus ticket. The 75-minute Rete Unica ticket is EUR 9.50; if you buy on board, ask when you board and pay by card terminal. If you are staying near Mestre station, the 1-day Venezia Daily Pass also covers Trenitalia regional trains (R and RV) within the municipality, such as Santa Lucia-Mestre.
Alilaguna water bus: to Venice, Murano, Burano and Lido
According to the airport, Alilaguna water buses connect to Venice and the islands of Murano, Burano, Lido and Certosa. Buy tickets at the Alilaguna ticket offices in the dock area.
According to AVM, ACTV tickets are not valid on Alilaguna. Even with a 1-, 2-, 3- or 7-day ticket or a 75-minute ticket, you need a separate Alilaguna ticket. Check official information for fares and journey times.

Taxis and private water taxis: fixed fares
According to the airport, taxis run 24 hours a day and fixed rates apply to and from the airport: Piazzale Roma EUR 40, Mestre centre EUR 35, cruise terminal EUR 45.
If you arrive late, check first and last bus and waterbus times with official information first and keep the 24-hour taxis in mind as a fallback. Private water taxis (motorboats) are also available; ask the operator or staff about the price before boarding.
