Getting from Toyama Airport (TOY) into town

Our Toyama guide lists two ways from Toyama Airport (TOY) into town: the airport bus (Toyama Airport Line) to Toyama Station, and a taxi. From Toyama Station, the tram carries on into the city center.

When you book, first check that the arrival airport on your ticket is Toyama Airport (TOY). This post copies the times and fares exactly as the guide gives them, then covers how each area connects from Toyama Station and an arrival-day checklist.

Airport bus (Toyama Airport Line): JPY 470 to Toyama Station

The airport bus is run by Toyama Chiho Railway. The fare is a flat JPY 470 between Toyama Station and Toyama Airport; check the official timetable for times.

Buses to Toyama Station leave about 10 minutes after a flight arrives, once passengers have boarded, and stop at Sogawa, Joshi Koen-mae and Toyama Shiyakusho-mae before Toyama Station. If your flight is late, the bus may also leave later.

Seating is limited to the number of seats, so you cannot board when it is full. Notes of JPY 2,000 or more cannot be used on board or at the airport ticket machine, so have JPY 1,000 notes and coins ready. Contactless credit cards are accepted: tap when you get off.

Taxi: about 20 min to Toyama Station

The taxi rank is right outside the domestic arrivals lobby. It takes about 20 min to Toyama Station (9.2 km) and costs about JPY 3,000.

That fare is the airport website's estimate and can vary with traffic.

Continuing by tram from Toyama Station

At Toyama Station you can ride the city tram around the center. A ride costs JPY 240 for adults and JPY 120 for children, the same fare in cash or with a nationwide transit IC card such as Suica.

Route 3, the loop line, circles Toyama Station and the city center in about 28 min and runs every 15 min. Toyama Station to Kokusai Kaigijo-mae (Toyama Castle) takes about 7 min. Toyama Castle, the Glass Art Museum and the free Toyama City Hall observation tower, with a 360-degree view from 70 m up, are a short tram ride away.
