Singapore with Kids in 4 Days: Areas, Itinerary, Transport and Budget
A 4-day family plan for Singapore: where to stay, daily route, MRT fares, heat and rain tips, hawker food, budget.

Where to stay: near an MRT station
Singapore is compact and the MRT is excellent, so almost any area works. With children, the key criterion is a hotel within about five minutes' walk of a station. Pushing a stroller for fifteen minutes in midday heat is harder than it sounds.
Marina Bay and City Hall put you close to Gardens by the Bay and the waterfront. Orchard has air-conditioned malls for rainy afternoons. Bugis and Chinatown tend to be a little cheaper. Many families also split one night on Sentosa for a resort break.
Day 1: arrival and Marina Bay by night
Changi Airport's Jewel complex, with its indoor waterfall, is an easy first stop. From the airport to the city takes about 40 to 60 minutes by MRT or 25 to 35 minutes by taxi or ride-hailing app. With luggage and small children, a car is far easier.
Keep the first evening light: stroll the free outdoor Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay, watch the free evening light show, and walk the Marina Bay promenade. Save the paid conservatories, Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, for a hot afternoon or a rainy spell since they are indoors.
Day 2: the Mandai wildlife parks
Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, Night Safari and Bird Paradise are clustered in Mandai in the north. It deserves a full day. It is about 30 to 40 minutes by car from the centre; public transport involves an MRT plus a shuttle or bus and can take over an hour.
Arrive early to see the main zones before the heat builds, then rest in the afternoon. The Night Safari can be added in the evening, but it ends late for young children. Expect roughly SGD 45 to 60 (about USD 35 to 46) per adult per park.
Day 3: Sentosa Island
Sentosa has Universal Studios Singapore, a large aquarium, beaches and a water park. Universal takes a full day; the aquarium and beach make a relaxed half day. Reach the island by the Sentosa Express monorail from VivoCity or by walking the boardwalk.
Universal Studios costs roughly SGD 85 to 95 (about USD 65 to 73) per adult, and queues are long on weekends and school holidays. Many rides have height limits, so check them in advance, and pack hats, water bottles and a change of clothes.
Day 4: Chinatown, hawker lunch and the airport
Spend the morning in Chinatown or Little India, eat lunch at a hawker centre and head to Changi. The airport has play areas and plenty to see, so arriving early is no hardship for kids.
Hawker centres are open-air food courts packed with stalls. Maxwell, Chinatown Complex, Lau Pa Sat and Newton are well-known. A plate of chicken rice, laksa or satay typically costs about SGD 5 to 8 (about USD 4 to 6). A packet of tissues or an umbrella on a table means the seat is reserved, so choose another.
Getting around: card or contactless
MRT trains and buses accept stored-value cards such as EZ-Link and contactless Visa or Mastercard bank cards. Fares are distance-based, usually about SGD 1 to 2.50 per ride. Each traveller needs their own card; one card cannot be shared across a group.
Children under 0.9 m tall ride free, and older children under seven need a child concession card to travel free. Rules can change, so check the official transport operator's website. For long trips with bags, a ride-hailing car can be cost-effective for a family of four.
Heat and rain
Daytime temperatures sit around 30 to 33 degrees Celsius all year with high humidity, and short, heavy afternoon showers are common. Plan outdoor sights for the morning and late afternoon, and fill midday with malls, conservatories, the aquarium or the hotel pool.
Indoor air conditioning is strong, so bring a light layer. Keep children drinking water. Check entry requirements, including the electronic SG Arrival Card, on the official Immigration and Checkpoints Authority website before you fly.
- Compact umbrella or rain poncho, hat, sunscreen
- Light jacket for air-conditioned interiors
- Water bottles, spare clothes, wet wipes
- A lightweight folding stroller
Budget for a family of four
Excluding accommodation, two adults and two children can expect roughly SGD 100 to 200 per day for food, SGD 30 to 60 for transport, and about SGD 250 to 450 on days with a major attraction. Family rooms run roughly SGD 250 to 500 per night depending on area and season.
If you plan several attractions, compare city passes and advance-purchase tickets. Eating mainly at hawker centres cuts food costs sharply. Conversions here assume about USD 0.75 to 0.78 per SGD.

FAQ
Is Singapore good for toddlers?
Yes. It is clean, safe and easy to navigate. Universal Studios suits school-age children better because many rides have height limits.
Do I need an EZ-Link card?
Not if you have a contactless bank card, but check your bank's foreign transaction fees. Otherwise a stored-value card works well.
What if it rains?
Showers are usually short. Keep an indoor option such as a conservatory, aquarium, museum or mall ready for each day.
Do hawker stalls take cards?
More stalls accept cards and QR payments now, but some are cash-only, so carry small notes.
